Operators can adjust these levels using precise electronic controls, and the unit's sides and bottom are insulated with high-density polyurethane to preserve low temperatures. To minimize its environmental impact, this food well operates with R290 refrigeranta'¬a€a type of eco-friendly hydrocarbon.

For durability to withstand rigorous use, the Delfield 8172-EFP drop-in cold food unit features a galvanized steel exterior. Its top, inner liner, and louver are constructed of stainless steel to provide additional strength and corrosion resistance. This unit accommodates five full-size pans with depths of 4 or 6 inches. Overall, this unit measures 72⁷/₁₆ inches wide by 26 inches deep by 24⁶/₂₅ inches high, and it requires a 71¹/₂-inch by 25-inch counter cutout.
