Q starter shelving unit's one-piece shelf frames are coated in abrasion-resistant epoxy, while the rust-resistant posts are made of polymer. These shelf components withstand use in damp walk-in coolers, steamy dishrooms, and other wet environments and can be continually exposed to temperatures from -20 to 125 degrees Fahrenheit. To enhance air circulation and light penetration, the shelves include open-grid polypropylene mats; once dirty, these removable pieces can be sanitized in a dishmachine or washing machine. Both the shelf mats and posts are treated with Microban? antimicrobial protection, which inhibits microbial, bacterial, and fungal growth between routine cleanings to deter odors and product damage.

Although the Metro 5Q417G3 commercial shelving unit ships knocked down, it can be assembled in minutes without tools. Included wedges feature raised beads that can be snapped onto the posts' grooves, the ready-to-use shelves can simply be placed over the posts and wedges. When fully assembled, it measures 23¹³?₁₆ inches wide by 21³?₈ inches tall by 74 inches tall and features five shelving tiers. Shelves can be raised or lowered in 1-inch increments using the tool-free corner-release mechanism. To accommodate bulk ingredients, cleaning supplies, bagged or boxed goods, and small pieces of kitchen equipment, each shelf can support 800 pounds.
