Part of the MetroMax? i series, the Metro 5X317GX3 starter shelving unit is stronger than MetroMax's other polymer shelving options. Each of its five open-grid shelves can support as much as 1,000 pounds, though no more than 2,000 pounds should be loaded on the unit in total. These shelves are made of advanced polymers with type 304 stainless steel corners, and to ensure the posts remain stable when the shelves are attached to the wedge connectors, the shelf frames establish a 360-degree capture of the wedges. As inventory is switched out, operators can raise or lower the shelves in 1-inch increments along the posts' grooves. Fully assembled, this unit measures 23³?₄ inches wide by 18¹?₄ inches deep by 74 inches tall.

Capable of surviving exposure to chemicals, moisture, and harsh environments, the Metro 5X317GX3 commercial shelving unit is comprised of rust- and corrosion-resistant polymer in addition to stainless steel. The shelves' vented shelf mats enhance airflow and light penetration and feature built-in ship's edges to secure contents in place. Both the shelf mats and polymer posts are treated with Microban? antimicrobial product protection to inhibit bacterial growth between regular cleanings, and the mats can be washed by hand or in dishmachines and washers as needed.
