Designed to store bulk items in dry, damp, humid, or wet environments, the Metro 5X427G4 MetroMax? 4 starter shelving unit's posts, shelves, and shelf mats are made of rust- and corrosion-resistant polymer designed to withstand harsh settings, chemicals, and moisture. This 29¹⁵?₁₆-inch-wide by 21¹?₂-inch-deep by 74³?₁₆-inch-tall unit is comprised of five shelf tiers that can support 800 pounds each; the unit can hold 2,000 pounds in total. These shelves include 6-inch-wide, open-grid polymer shelf mats that promote airflow and light penetration, and to enhance sanitation for product storage, the shelves can be removed and cleaned by hand, a dishwasher, or a washing machine. Between regular cleanings, its Microban? antimicrobial protection, which is built into the shelves and posts, slows fungal, microbial, and bacterial growth to preserve product quality.

Although the Metro 5X427G4 commercial shelving system ships knocked down, it comes with five bags of four wedge connectors that facilitate tool-free assembly; these one-piece wedges feature raised beads that can snap into the posts' grooves. To ensure the wedges are level, their windows align with the posts' numbered labels. Once the connectors are secured in place, the shelves can be placed atop the wedges. For stabilization during loading and unloading, the shelves are built with a four-sided frame that completely captures the wedges and posts. As inventory is rotated, the shelves can be adjusted in 1-inch increments.
