Stronger than other shelving systems in the MetroMax? series, the Metro 5X517GX3 MetroMax i starter shelving unit can support 1,000 pounds on each shelf because they're built with 304 stainless steel corners. However, to preserve the unit's structural integrity, no more than 2,000 pounds should be loaded on the unit at once. These shelves come with open-grid polymer mats that enhance light penetration and promote airflow to minimize dust buildup; to keep contents contained, the mats are built with ship's edges. The mats' smooth surfaces minimize the risk of products ripping or tearing during loading or removal. These components can be washed in a dishmachine or commercial washing machine, and to maintain a sanitary storage space between these cleanings, they're treated with Microban? antimicrobial, hindering the growth of mold, mildew, bacteria, and fungus that could otherwise result in malodors and product degradation.

The Metro 5X517GX3 starter shelving system includes one-piece wedges with raised beads that snap into the posts' grooves; to ensure wedges are positioned at the same height, their windows align with the numbered labels on the posts. Operators can simply place the shelves on the wedges, and the shelf frame fully captures the wedge and post for stability. The shelves can be raised and lowered along the posts in 1-inch increments to accommodate products of varying heights. When fully assembled, this unit measures 23³?₄ inches wide by 24¹?₄ inches deep by 74 inches tall. Because its posts and shelf mats are made of durable, corrosion- and rust-resistant polymer, it can be installed in dry or wet storage areas.
