Because of its 10-second toast time, the Antunes VCT-1000-9210702 vertical toaster quickly finishes buns so they can be used to assemble sandwiches and hamburgers. Its compression is adjustable to accommodate bun crowns and heels ranging from ¹/₂ to ⁷/₈ inches thick. Buns are continuously moved through the unit on a conveyor for instant toasting. Often called a contact toaster, this type of unit transports buns along a platen. They touch the hot surface, and the sugars caramelize, creating a firm surface that resists moisture from condiments and vegetables. Because the platen is double sided, it can toast buns in front and behind it, increasing the amount it can brown each hour.
