There are three levels inside the Howard-McCray SC-OS30E-4-S open-air cooler; the step shelf is removable for cleaning. For heavyweight bearing, the unit's exterior and interior are made of heavy-gauge steel, and the foamed-in-place polyurethane works as an insulator to keep products at temperature-safe conditions. The unit's ends are fully removable to set up a continuous line of equipment, and to reduce energy loss after hours, it comes with a night cover.

The Howard-McCray SC-OS30E-4-S Impulse open-air cooler features a self-contained refrigeration system that utilizes R513A refrigerant. The expansion valve system moderates the flow, while the low-velocity fan in the deck area ensures cold air effectively circulates the products. Temperatures are precisely adjusted via the electronic controller, and during operation, the automatic air defrost keeps temperatures consistent.
